If you hadn’t figured it out already, in this chapter, Pooky drops the other shoe (although Pooky doesn’t wear shoes), and becomes a full blown film noir narrator.
Thus concludes Chapter 2: Wicked Sister, with a lead in to both chapters 3 and 4, to be resolved later.
I think #36 should have been 2 pages. It would have given me the chance to have an establishing shot to better explain that Penelope went to a coffee shop where Hannibal works. I think someone can gather that, but it might be confusing the first time.
Yeah, Juju is prone to rapid mood changes.
Cue Queen. Ok, looking back, I left out a detail that Juju couldn’t use magic in doll form, and that’s why she couldn’t change herself back. You need a living body as a channel for magic in this universe. That is explained in a later chapter. I was kind of forgetful early on.
This was the first time Penelope’s religious side was shown, and once again, plays for laughs a concept that will be taken seriously later.
By the way, panel 1 of #29 is just a little visual gag. In this world there exists an energy drink called “Haul Ass.” So you can literally open up a can of Haul Ass.
Wesson is a douche.
Glass. It’s like doors for action movie characters.
Like most of the cast, Penelope has been through several design changes over the years, and evolved as my art style evolved with her. One consistent piece of her design is the distinct forehead lock, which has stuck through all the revisions, and once included retained the right side curl.
Agent Wesson debuts here. Once again I introduce concepts early playing them for laughs so I can do more later. Wesson is just a walking John Woo parody at this point.
Yeah the whole Hare thing. This was a story element that never really went anywhere later, but it somehow sticks around as a unique character train separating Wesson from the rest of the cast.
Juju seems to like guys who are forceful.
Yeah, that changed pace quickly. Don’t expect this chapter to take its self all that seriously.
